Painting - Oil / Canvas
My attempt to paint a classic Venitian scene of the once opulent but still beautiful Venice architecture and the many Canals and Lagoonas that make Venice such a unique place.
There are more than 170 buildings along the Grand Canal, many from the 1300's, that still harbour the feeling of opulence and wealth inspite of the decades of flooding and decay. Once Euro's gateway to the riches of the Far East The Venice Republic was one of the riches place in the renaissance world by collecting taxes on everything going through it's port. Today it still lives off that reputations as tourists the world over flock to the incredible architecture that remains inspite of the constant water damage caused by the unpredictable Adriatic Sea. I purposely used a loose technique to create a feeling of what defines many of the Vencian building's ambience today.
