Description
Heavy atomic nuclei colliding. Computer artwork of two heavy atomic nuclei colliding. The collision has created a subatomic particle (lower right). Such collisions are being used at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN (the European particle physics laboratory) to investigate conditions immediately after the Big Bang. Atomic nuclei consist of neutrons and protons. Heavy nuclei have an increased number of neutrons.
