Gloucester schooner racing the storm to get to port from Georges Bank. In the days of sailing fishing schooners, one of the most dangerous erils was when a ship was far from shore and a storm arose. In those days, weather forcasting was unheard of and ships were often lost in gales, noreasters, even huricanes before they could get safely to shore. This painting is of a of a dory trawling schooner in a noreaster on Georges Bank off Cape Cod.
