Here we have a shell of what is commonly called a Hen Clam. They are bigger then a regular soft shelled clam and are found near the low water mark. They can grow to fit the size of your hand. Mainly used in soups and chowders because they are minced fine because they are a little tough to chew. This one is made of Spalted Maple. There is a hole in the shell as if you hooked the clam with one of the tines of your clam hoe. It is approximately 4 inches long x 2 1/2 inches wide x 1 1/4 inches deep.
