Relief - Relief - Ancient Greek Coin
This coin is from the Thracian Greek Island city of Thasos. It is a Silver Tetradrachm (16.11 grams) Circa 148 B.C. reference: Sear 1759; B.M.C 3. 67 - 78. This is Hercules, naked, standing left, holding a club, with a lion's skin over the left arm. There is a monogram in the field to the left; with an inscription around. The Obv. side of the coin is the head of young Dionysus (god of wine) right, wreathed with ivy and with the band across the forehead. It is nicely toned and centered for framing.
