Outstanding capture,Lois. Your picture title is also the title of Michael Moore's new book. Outstanding that this is a shot taken in the wilds, haven't been as lucky to get big carnivores out in the wilds. When I see them I'm usually without a camera- like a cougar mother and her cub strolled no more than 20 feet away one morning out on the edges of town ( Canon City, CO ) where I was living at the time. Beautiful work, Lois which is certainly your trademark. Fun new avatar pix of you - pointing out your smile?

Lois Bryan replied:

Ahhh ... well, Michael likes my stuff, apparently, lol!! Yep, taken in the "wild" if you count a parking lot with a dumpster wild?? Thank heavens for Photoshop!!! Your adventure with the cougar mother ... camera or not ... I'm sure is one you'll never forget!! WOW!!!!! And yes, new avatar ... wholly unprofessional and silly ... so probably won't be there long ... !!! Thank you again for your visit!!!

Thanks, sweetie!!!!! I was just up on PA ... and the news on the tv was all about the END of bear-hunting season ... I am devastated.

New York, NY - United States

This is an incredible capture Lois, the detail in his face is marvelous even at 500mm! The texture and background works very well too, I love it! Love critters but not sure if I want to have to look over my shoulder for these guys in my post code! :-)

Lois Bryan replied:

Chris, thank you ... I wasn't as happy with the facial detail so jizzed it up with dodging and burning a bit ... it was getting dark when I snapped this, and I had barked the iso up to 1000 which sometimes works beautifully, but not always. I'm truly honored that you approve!!!! As to looking over my shoulder, yeah, it's always in the back of my mind as I ramble around up there all by myself!!! You bet it is!!!!!!

Colorado Springs, CO - United States

Great job Lois. What lens did you use on your D300. I have the same camera. Awesome capture!

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Tim, thank you so so much ... I'm sorry, I usually put that info in the description and will do so now. I got the Sigma OS 150-500mm a little over a year ago and as long as you have plenty of light, you're good to go, as it's a 5.6. The problem I have with shooting the bears is, they only come out to forage (actually raid the dumpsters, lol) right at about dusk, so the light conditions aren't the best ... especially with that lens. I got it online from Adorama, I think, at about $900 or so??? I've had good luck with Adorama, so I do recommend them. This was my first Sigma lens, and I have been very pleased with it. I recently got Sigma's wide angle 10-20 and have been pleased with it as well. All my other lenses are Nikons.

Waikerie, So - Australia

Now this is just absolutely gorgeous Lois! Loving the whole treatment here, as always you have done a wonderful job making a gorgeous image into a masterpiece!

Lois Bryan replied:

Awww Selina, you are such a doll ... thank you very much ... I had such a blast shooting this guy .. he's wild and a naughty boy but we love him (from inside the car, of course, lol!!!) ... glad you enjoyed this little image, too!!!

Perth, WA - Australia

Oh wow Lois that is fantastic. Love how the whole imgae flows so beautifully.. Gorgeous colours. I can't imagine living with bears like this so close - you have such variety to photograph, I need to come for a holiday LOL. But I'd bring my running shoes because that's what I'd be doin if I saw this :-)))))))

Lois Bryan replied:

Kym, believe me when I say, I was inside a car ... and this was taken at 500mm. By the way, while we were up there we heard about a pack of wild coyotes ... an 11 year old little boy's little dog sacrificed his life to save the kid ... and this is within the same postal code as our place. Needless to say, I didn't go far from the house this weekend, lol!!! Ao it's beautiful up there ... but ... can be dangerous!!! Thanks so much ... thrilled that you enjoyed how it turned out!!!!!!! Hugzz!!!

Whitewater, CO - United States

Very nice Lois, I really like the feel of the light in this one!

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Allen, thank you ... I have to credit the texture from SolStock for that ... this one just wasn't coming together until I finally tried that particular texture. Then everything started to fall into place. Always amazes me when that one right piece makes it all work.

Littleton, CO - United States

Trouble indeed, Lois. I really like the way you added the texture to this image. It works perfectly. -- Joe.

Lois Bryan replied:

Hi Joe!!!!! Thank you so much ... at one point I had about 5 textures stacked up at various blends and opacities. Then I added just one more and that's all it needed ... the rest went off to see the wizard!!! Glad you enjoyed it ... what fun to get the shot!!!!!
