Drawing - Ink Drawing On Paper
In this picture and in those similar to it, (that is, where there is no clearly evident subject) it is fair to say that my principle occupation in creating it is in the process of creation itself. My tenant is that that when I involve myself in revealing to myself in a picture some pathway of truth about my life and understanding of it, this involvement itself will result, finally, in a picture that is of value also to others. I will give an analogy: If someone wishes to hear a lecture on a particular subject he will search the directory to find a lecture on that subject. But if, instead, he is interested in hearing a certain speaker, he will go to hear him regardless of the subject he is speaking about, for he knows that whatever he will choose to speak about he will elucidate it well. Thus so; I wish, in making a picture, to bring myself into a 'place' where whatever I will 'speak' about will be worth hearing. That is, I try to enter into a deep dialog with myself in creating a picture; with the belief that "what comes from the heart enters the heart", that the viewer will also be enabled through the picture to enter into a deep place in HIMSELF; this itself being the purpose of the art, to cause others to reflect more deeply on their lives, and, be'ezras Hashem, thereby come closer to truth. There is much more to be written about this. I hope I have given something to begin with.
