Painting - Batik On Paper
What is Batik? Used in many civilizations through history, it is a decorative art used to embellish textiles. The first step in the process is dying an all natural fabric. Once the dye is fixed, colors are preserved using molten wax. The fabric is again dyed in a fixative chemicals and dyes and additional wax is applied to preserve the new color. This method is repeated many times creating additional color combinations and detail. In the end, the wax is removed revealing the finished art.
A clear understanding and knowledge of color theory is used as the dyes combine to form new colors. The color process requires moving from vibrant to neutral tones, and light to dark. The beauty of batik is the way the dyes blend naturally to create the aesthetic color combinations.
