Description:

The Passo Castagno valley and hills around Gavignano north of Rome showing late autumn crop of ramoraccia. Strong autumn light with cool low temperatures. Here in Gavignano, I experienced rural Italy and its village life at first hand. Rudimentary reds and white wine manufactured for local consumption, proved to be ideal under the circumstances. I enjoyed the hour long walks from my nest in these hills to the railway station for the train to Rome. These are late autumn fields which have withstood a long hot summer and preparing for the cold months ahead. Finding such an abundance of yellow was sheer good fortune and I wasted little time in capturing this view before these flowers died and the field turned into a hesitant green. This typical rural scene was my home while preparing for the Florence Biennial to the north of here. Ample clouds always threatened rain and formidable temperatures made working here pleasant. This simple composition turned out to be one of my more favorite works produced in Italy given of its contrasting bands of blue and yellow. Rural Italy captures one's soul with its subtle attraction and alluring secrets. Locals were extremely friendly and helpful which made my stay here very pleasurable.
