Description
Hohes Schloss, Fussen, Germany
The Hohes Schloss, a late-Gothic confection and one-time retreat of the bishops of Augsburg, lords it over Füssen’s compact historical centre. The north wing of the palace contains the Staatsgalerie (State Gallery), with regional paintings and sculpture from the 15th and 16th centuries. The Städtische Gemäldegalerie (City Paintings Gallery) below is a showcase of 19th-century artists. The inner courtyard is a masterpiece of illusionary architecture dating back to 1499; you’ll do a double take before realising that the gables, oriels and windows are not quite as they seem.

I just LOVE this image; couldn't help but comment again when it popped up on my screen. Love it; love it; love it. And I can't remember if I added it to my favorites before, but now for sure it is. Awesome find, capture, composition, and treatment.

It does have an illusionistic quality about it, Marcia. Aside from your painterly style, it almost looks like it is painted on the wall. L F
Marcia Colelli replied:
It is painted on the wall. Not an treatment. Very unique castle and village. Lots of murals and this type of door and window treatment. **36
