Sculpture - Sculpture
This unique canvas sculpture was created by using over fifteen different paintings cut up and re-purposed as fish scales, fins and gills. Each scale was placed according to its color to create a flowing variety of interest on the body. The face is gold leafed and has scrap jewelry for its eyes. River rock and more recycled paintings cover a recycled trophy base.
My purpose of producing this whimsical aquatic creature was to just have fun and fashion a piece of art that was truly more than the observer was aware of. My intent is for the onlooker to gaze deeply into the scales and perhaps see an object of surprise such as a seagull or part of a flower, maybe a man fishing in a boat, part of a light house, or part of a glorious sunrise. Each painting used in this process was specifically chosen for the ranges of color and interest that would enhance the final sculpture. Many hours of construction were used to produce Holy Mackerel. It is my hope that some time would be taken to enjoy the surprises within.
