Hooked At Dawn On The Alsea
Painting - Watercolor And Ink
Drawn and painted completely with ink, this scene reminds me of the many wonderful fishing trips I went on with my dad. Friends had property on the Alsea River in Oregon, and we would often go with them, pitch a tent and stay the weekend. There would always be 3-4 families going together with many children who were all good friends. The joys of camping there still bring a smile to my face!
I remember one of the times I went fishing with my dad, very well. He would get up at 4am to make sure he got to his fishing hole by dawn because he said the fish always bit better in the early morning. Probably true since he usually brought his limit back for breakfast! I couldn't believe he was waking me from my snuggly sleeping bag before it was even daylight! Shivering, I quickly got into my warm clothes, and followed him down the trail. We walked quite awhile because he said that the deep holes were a little ways away up stream. When we got there, it was so beautiful, he was whistling back to the birds, and the calmness of the river amazed me. He gave me his fishing rod, helped me put of the fly and cast. Well, I did it several times by myself, but it was only when he put his arms around me and added his expertise, that we caught fish. We caught 3 trout that day and they were the best trout I had ever tasted! Funny how he was able to catch the limit when I wasn't along!???
He helped all my cousins learn how to fish in the same way he did for me. They also have wonderful memories of fishing on the Alsea River! Hats off to those dads who take the time with their boys and girls, to teach them the serenity of fishing!!! Happy Father's Day!
