Amy . . it is always so good to hear from you . thank you for your kind comments . . and so happy you enjoy it . . actually I enjoyed the entire day on Hookipa Beach on this day . it is always fun to watch windsurfing and sailboards and other professional world-class surfing and other ocean sports . . and the sand on this beach is so beautiful . . deep . luxurious golden sand . a bit coarse in places and super soft in others . it depends on how much wave action it receives for some areas on the beach are pounded with the incoming surf . . . . but when you look at it in macro it is so gorgeous . . the sand is composed of tiny bits of sea polished coral and shells and it is so pretty . . when you scoop it up and hold it in your hands it sparkles in the sunlight like crystals . . . when tide is low you can see the reef outcropping along the shorebreak . . Often the keiki, the local children play on it and you can see all kinds marine life such as sea urchins, sea cucumbers And it is here I often see the adorable sea turtles swimming and feeding and rolling in the waves . . it is always so wonderful to see the Honu . . Olive Ridleys, Loggerheads and Leatherbacks are usually only encountered in deep offshore waters but it is common on all the islands to see the Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtle) . . . Hookipa is a beautiful beach on the north shore . . The surfing end of the beach is called Pavilions . the Pavilions is on the east side of the beach near the overlook where there are tidepools and a more gentle area for the children to play . . . In this photograph this area of Hookipa Beach is called Middles . On Hookipa surf breaks from east to west . . “Middles” – Surfing (some windsurfing cross-over) West of Pavilions. Breaks both right and left (more left.) . . in the Hawaiian language Hookipa translates to Hospitality . . Aloha . . ♥ . . . ✿⊱╮ . . . . .
