Horyu-ji Temple Gate Guardian - Nara Japan
This is Agyo, the west gate guardian King at Horyu-ji Temple in Nara Japan. He protects Horyuji from evil during daylight hours and was sculpted in the year 711. Horyuji is the oldest temple in Japan and there are two of these guards flanking the central gate. It is a Japanese National Treasure and attributed to a master sculpture.
