Description
This painting is based on a photograph I took during a trip to New Orleans. The comings and goings of hotel housekeepers.
I was graciously invited to tour a quant, historical hotel by the resident butler, who noticed me peeking through the iron-gated entrance. My view through the gate turned out to be a home that was converted to a very nice hotel called Soniat House. Soniat House is a small historic luxury boutique hotel in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
As I entered the courtyard, I noticed immediately that the temperature was much cooler. Well-established plants and an iron fountain, with trickling water, stood steadfastly in their places. The atmosphere was fantastic and held a historical air. Even though the hotel was superbly captivating, my gaze was drawn to these ladies busily going about their job. I was deeply moved by their gracious contentment with their station. I don't know how to describe it. They were simply beautiful. I also loved how bright white their socks, shoes, and aprons were. I wanted to capture all of this and I think that I did.
