Description:

Red ocher found in nearby quarries, adorn the straw and mud homes of the Tswana of Botswana. For tens of thousands of years the San have occupied the Kalahari Desert around here and in the midst of their marginalized and frugal existence, modernity has arrived.

These two round houses were home to young Zimbabwean refugees seeking a better life in Botswana. Sub Saharan Africa coupled to political instability have sent tens of thousands fleeing ahead of its path and many of them arrived in these parts before traveling further into South Africa, a short distance from here. This scene that was painted just outside the village of Pelegano is reminiscent of traditional establishments here. Hot summer weather produced frequent thunderstorms.
