I Locked You Out
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
In this image a woman sits next to a window. The woman is cleaning some clear substance (which we know to be kerosene) off of her hands. Out the window we see a crude cityscape depicting a sidewalk, a fence, and two buildings, both of which are on fire. There is floating text above the figure's head reading "i locked you out". The words "i locked you" are painted in the area depicting the outside; the word "out" crosses the boundary and sits indoors with the figure.
I focused on a feeling of desire for spite, an overwhelming and responsive malice; the image shows a woman who has set the entire world on fire, then retreated into a fireproof shelter, and has locked you out. She is depicted as the world is beginning to burn, fresh kerosene still on her hands, as if to indicate the viewer is a victim, looking into the shelter, reading her vindictive smile as an indicator that she has sealed him out in the imminent flame. I love it.
