If There Is No Flour There Is No Torah 5
David Baruch Wolk
Painting - Digitally Adjusted Oil Painting
Someone who paints “from life”, such as a landscape, the landscape itself shows him his mistakes, shows him the truth and how far away he is from it. Someone who paints as I do, from himself; for him, the reaction of all people to his occupation with the pictures; their reaction to his being and calling himself an artist, their reaction to his asking them to buy his work, and their reactions to the works themselves, both in general and in particular, both 'positive' and 'negative'
reactions, the entire spectrum of responses, including, of course, his own responses, these show the artist his mistakes and how far he is from the truth, where he stands with respect to the truth. For this is Hashem's providence with the person.
