Description:

This is a progress update (teaser glimpse) for my latest work. The torch isn't finished and the area not yet shown is to be a pile of energized electronics Liberty is struggling to stand on. It's a social statement about how the digital age is affecting us not only as Americans, but as human beings. It will look quite different when it's done. The enscription on back will read:

We now live in a consumer based economy; a consumer based society is not something we anticipated. Mass production of consumer goods has improved our quality of life and gave us a cultural identity as consumers were able to express themselves with the things they bought. The faulted end, in which we need to be cautious, is where the individual is all that matters. Most advertising tries to stroke your ego by promising that you are all that matters to them, and in fact, you are all that matters - period. People now spend big money to shut out the world. After all, no one knows how best to please you more than you. No one else knows what you like. Sure you can play games or chat with people on the other side of the world, but you won't know a single thing about them, except how they wish to portray - express - themselves in a digital world, a fantasy world. So buy the i Phone, download i Tunes to your i Pod, surf You Tube and find more cool videos for your My Space page.

I don't mean to target Mac, but it's the best example to illustrate my point and many companies have followed their approach to consumers.

The concept for this piece came to me with the help of Megan Van Berkum, a long time love of mine. I thank her for her love and support in everything I've done.

Feedback appreciated.
