Illustration Of Fibroids In The Uterus
Photograph - Photograph
Fibroids in the uterus. Illustration of the human uterus, showing fibroid development. At centre is the uterus (womb) with fallopian tubes leading off it at centre left and right; the vagina is at lower frame. Fibroids are benign tumours which are seen as white growths in or on the uterine wall. At top is a pedunculated subserous fibroid, which grows on a stalk attached to the uterus. Three interstitial uterine fibroids within the wall are also seen. Fibroids consist of smooth muscle bundles and connective tissue which grow slowly. Small fibroids usually require no treatment. Large or many fibroids may cause obstruction, and can be surgically removed.
