Painting - Digital Painting
this is a completely hand-painted digital piece, done with a laptop, a common mouse, GIMP, and a lot of patience. It represents a jasmine (jasminum sambac), which is the floral symbol of immortal and neverending love. The painting was done with colors, but after some hours of work I decided to only keep the shadows and the basic traits of the painting, that form a silhouette on a white surface.
Jasmines are native to tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Australia. Of the 200 species we have, apparently only one is native to Europe. In Italy this flower is famous due to a poem by Giovanni Pascoli, that identifies feminine beauty and frailty with the jasmine. Pascoli's poem notoriously suggests the union between a couple and the subsequent sprouting of new life, not without leaving traces of violence on the flower. The jasmine is thus iconic of feminimity, in the poet's concept of it, and even of the female sexual life at his times.
