In the Shadows of Sleeping Giant Mountain V
Artist
Maria Rova
Medium
Painting - Dyes And Resist On Silk
Description
One in a series of five silk paintings featuring the culture and wildlife of Fiji. The rugged skyline of the Sleeping Giant Mountains we see from our home runs through each painting.
This one features a Fijian drum, carved from a tree log, and a conch shell horn, used to call people together to mark an important occasion in Fijian village life. Also included here is an image of a traditional fish trap and spear, carved wooden oil dishes, and the corner of a bamboo raft - still important as a mode of transport in remote Fijian communities.
