Description
Monotropa uniflora, also known as the Ghost Plant, Indian Pipe, or Corpse Plant is a very tiny flower and stays close to the ground. It is an opaque white, sometimes even pink or red. As this flower gets older it will eventually start turning complete black. It lives in the woods in leafy humus. It grows 4-10 inches tall. Indian Pipe plants do not have any chlorophyll, so it doesnt go through photosynthesis. Saprophytes get nutrients from fungi. Native Americans used to mix the Indian pipe with water to help eye problems. It was also used on cuts.
