Description
This is the first of five paintings I did a little while after 9/11. So far as I know, they don't actually represent anything much like what happened; they are more or less my feelings and fears during a long mourning and depressing time.

Hi Bruce, I read your biography and so went looking for your 9/11 paintings and I knew instantly this was one of them and suspected it was the first one. It is stunning. The grey, the fires, the leaning of the buildings -- all hugely effective and moving. I have an MA in English (got into the Ph.D. program but bowed out due to the glut of the early 90s) and I worked in publishing until a few years ago and never even drew until less than two years ago! So I was interested to see what we have in common! Thank you for your detailed comments on my work. It is very gratifying to hear them (especially since they're favorable, haha). Oh, and how did you know I turn some of my abstracts to every side and try to decide which one feels most right to me? (And it can change from moment to moment!) I was just doing that with a new painting a little while ago. Do you find yourself doing the same? Well, maybe this should have been an email, haha.
