A foal usually stands within 30 to 60 minutes after birth. This is to allow it to get away from predators (photographers?). It also enables it to feed - it receives nourishment and antibodies from the colostrum in the mare's milk.
A newborn foal's legs are almost as long (90%) as those of an adult horse.
