Description:

This impressionistic floral is based on a photo I took a few years ago at the Butchart Gardens in Vancouver, BC. I was intrigued by the bright toplighting on the filigree edges of the irises and the juxtaposition of the blue and orange complements. To make the irises "pop," I painted them against a very dark background with abstract shapes in the deep shadows. The painting was mainly created by negative painting.
