Thanks all for your lovely comments! Jennifer - I've only been using charcoal for about three months, so I'm still trying to figure out what works. The more realistic drawings like this one, the turtle and the deer I copied from my own photographs. For the others like the rhino, cougar and wolves I used reference photos that were not mine (meaning I can't copy them), so they didn't come out quite as realistic. It's my hope, though, that the more I practice, the better I'll get.

I notice that this cat looks more realistic than your other drawings. The others, like the Rhino, look more like illustrations (very good illustration) that you would see in a book. Do you draw with different styles on purpose?
