Michigan is well-known for a geologic formation called the Mackinac breccia, an accretion composed of broken fragments of limestone in varying sizes, cemented into rock masses more solid and resistant than the parent limestone. This picture from Flint, Michigan is an excellent example of how our vernacular buildings seem to echo our geology.
