Description:
John Hartman and his wife, Mary Hartman, homesteaded in the Como valley of MT. John was a pen and ink artist who made lovely scroll work and great political cartoons for sale. He played in John Phillip Sousa's band and was a civil war veteran. It was said that the Indians in the area always left his homestead alone when they raided in the valley. The daughter, Julia Hartman, married Guy Overturf who raised his family in Como near Hamilton MT.
