July 7 2014 - Carnival Splendor at New York City - Image 1674-01

On our way to New York City, we stopped at Liberty State Park in New Jersey. From there, we had a great view of the city, as shown in many of the "New York City" gallery photos that are shared here. The Carnival Splendor crossed in front of us and provided a nice perspective of scales with the view of New York City in the background. The cruise was departing New York City and headed for he Caribbean and the Bahamas, per the information I could find on the web. I only took one photo, but it looked good. In editing, I did the usual levels changes and made blacks more intense, played a tad with saturation, vibrancy and clarity, but still found the sky at the top and the water at the bottom to take just a bit too much of the attention. I then added some color gradient to the sky and to the water, trying to match tones as much as possible to keep the photo looking natural, and produced the photo as posted. Considering all of the nice contrasts, I then tried a black and white interpretation, but found it a bit lacking...so instead with an infrared effect to produce a more vibrant black and white version. Both the color and the black and white versions are for sale on the site. It was a nice day, and a lot of people were on deck.
