the july 9 framed prints, 2012 series was approached in an automatism technique i use frequently in drawing and in painting. i taped all five 18 x 24 water color papers in a row at about eye-level. i started from the 1st paper(from left) making random long 1/2 inch rounded brush strokes of thick black ink with circles. i numbered the sheets on the bottom left corner to keep them in order in case some fall due to aggressive brush work. i then started shadowing the black brush strokes with the same 1/2 inch rounded brush dipped in gray acrylic and tempera mix . after framed prints, in layers framed prints, i added the different colors( gold framed prints, brown framed prints, sky blue framed prints, yellow and red) in order from left to right with each different color. in between the layers of color i used red and black oil paint stick strokes like in an incoherent writing form. i then laid all the sheets on the floor to air dry for a while the with a bottle of black acrylic paint i started dripping and pouring the paint on the sheets in long lines again from left to right in order from the #1 sheet to the #5 sheet. using the same dripping and pouring process i used the white framed prints, yellow framed prints, orange and blue in order. i signed each sheet with the dates and let them dry for a couple of days.with a clear semi-gloss spray paint can i generously sprayed the whole surface of the painting to prevent future damage to the painting and to have a fresh paint look to the pieces. framed prints, the july 9 greeting cards, 2012 series was approached in an
