The iconic Boeing 747 "Jumbo Jet" was first flown commercially in 1970. Its large passenger capacity (up to 660) made it the largeest passenger airliner for 37 years. The distinctive hump in the forward fuselage was actually added to allow it to be converted for cargo hauling as it was expected that supersonic airliners would render the subsonic planes obsolete. Instead of the 400 expected to be sold, Boeing has sold almost 1,700 and the 747 is probably the most iconic passenger aircraft. It has appeared in many films such as the Airport disaster movies, Air Force One and Executive Decision.
