Jumping Spider, Sem
Photograph - Photograph
Jumping spider, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). A jumping spider (family Salticidae) stalks its prey before leaping on it from a few centimetres away. Four pairs of eyes (red) are seen on its head. The large chelicerae (at lower centre) are pincers that are used to tear up its food. Either side of these are the two palps, sensory structures for feeling and manipulation.
