Kaddish With Wire
Painting - Acrylic On Mdf
Kaddish with Wire is part of a series of four paintings titled "Kaddish" which refers to an ancient Hebrew prayer, extolling the Almighty. Today the prayer is commonly thought of as the Mourner's Kaddish, said on the death of a loved one and on the anniversary of the death. In this series, the paintings memorialize those "for whom there are none to remember" which refers to the six million Jews and millions of others lost in the Holocaust. The pink triangle refers to the badge that homosexuals were made to wear. They were rounded up and exterminated in the Nazi death camps, along with gypsies, communists, prostitutes, mentally handicapped and others "non-people." The blue stripes refer to the stripes on the Jewish prayer shawl and on the Israeli flag and the yellow star refers to the badge that Jews were mandated to wear. The barbed wire refers to the death camps.
