Molokai's Kalaupapa Peninsular and Awahua Beach from cliff top lookout.
This isolated peninsula surrounded by sea and high cliffs is not easy to get to. Visitors must get permission for access, then hike the steep 3 1/2-mile trail to get to its entrance. The reward is an ecological wonder of natural beauty and intriguing history. Kalaupapa was once an isolated colony for Native Hawaiians suffering from Hansenís disease. As well as lush, rare flora and fauna, the park preserves many points of archaeological interest dating back to ancient times with historic buildings and other relics of its once exiled community.
