Description:

This is a portrait of a racehorse called Deeper in Debt. He had quite a succesful career with over 10 wins but is now retired. I tried to sketch him, but he was so inquisitive about what I was up to that he came up and licked the paper of my sketchbook, smudging the charcoal lines I had drawn. I resorted to taking photographs,and in the one used as reference for this painting, he is standing in the dappled shade.
