Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
I really felt happy when I painted this. I was sketching one night watching tv and started drawing a flower. One turned into two and then I drew a whole tree. I started thinking about how women are so amazing. How life springs from our bodies. I wanted the girl to look very peaceful resting on a mound of grass. When my sister Rebecca saw this piece she pointed out that the mound looked like a pregnant belly! I love it!
I was born and raised in the beautiful state of New Mexico. Growing up, I was surrounded by the paintings of both my grandfather and father. Their subjects were inevitably the churches, people, and landscapes of New Mexico. As a little girl, I spent many Saturday afternoons sitting in a chair beside my dad's easel watching him paint. I would happily keep him company, chattering away and rubbing his soft brushes against my cheek. Soon, he would set me up with my own easel, and have loved art ever since.
