I love it when people relate to this! I was lucky enough to have been raised around 20 first cousins, aunts and uncles! I've been so blessed to have a large family. As crazy as family can make you, you gotta love em!

Beverly Hills, CA - United States

I was born and raised in Mexico and this painting reminds me when in special occasions we ate all together,...13 kids!. The rest of the time we did it in groups. Very nice.

What a blessing and a honor to have this piece recognized. The subject matter is as close to my heart as can possibly be. I have had the very good fortune of being born to my Grandparents Manuel and Reynalda Almeida who taught me the value of family and being proud of where you came from. God bless you all for your kind words!

I have tried 3 times in responding to your last comment, and each time I clicked-on the "Comment" button below, a drop-down message said, I was logged-out due to inactivity. I will try again here...just to day thank you for your warm comments and that I visited your beautiful site yesterday afternoon. I have so much to say, that I will (if you don't mind) send you an e-mail, so I don't get cut-off again. I don't understand what they mean by "inactivity," as I was vey active so to speak. Anyway, one more time...I greatly enjoyed your web site. I will tell you more in an e-mail. Thank you again. Your new amigo, Dean Gleisberg

Dean, I loved what you wrote. It gave me chills! It is very obvious that you have experienced it! You see, I grew up with this kind of family. THe older I get, the more I realize how truly amazing it was and that most people don't have this experience. My Grandpa Manuel Almeida died in 1983 and my Grandma Almeida died in 2000. Since they have died my Mom, her sisters and brother have become the "next generation" SInce my grandparents death all of the aunts and uncles have split off into their own families. I suppose that's natural, but I long for the way things used to be. Twenty two of us grandchidren would cram into my Grandma's little casita here in Santa FE and run all over while the Aunties would be in the kitchen gossiping and cooking the best food I've ever had in my life. The men would drink beer and watch football. There was lots of laughter and music and LOVE. I vowed when my Grandma died that I wouldn't let those times die, that's when I started painting. Dean, check out my website and look under my bio so you can see my Grandma, my great grandma, my grandpa. There is even a little video there showing them. Thank you so much for the letter. IT truly made my day! God BLess you Dean.

This scene certainly describes the word, "La Familia," to the "T," or should I say, to the "F." I am an anglo of German descent and have been married to a beautiful California lady of Mexican descent now for over 50 years (51 this coming February 28. Most of my wife's family (the older ones) have all sadly passed-away now (just a few of us left)...but I retain beautiful memories of similar scenes during our early years...with niños en todos partes. My mother-in-law always had her little radio on playing beautiful rancheras...and often beginning with a simple (but fantastically delicious) meal. Soon, there'd be a knock at the door...and another loved one would join our small group. This often would be followed by more knocks...and before you knew it...a party would be ensuing...just like that. It seemed there were parrandas all the time...with no prior planning, etc. Life was so sweet. But your painting really re-captures those happy memories just perfectly. Great work!
