This image is one I took of a reflection in the water of a hugely talented acrobatic couple, Franck and Delphine, performing an amazing, awe-inspiring feat of aerial artistry aboard their sailboat.
They use the deck and rigging of their sailboat, as well as long, delicate swaths of silk to perform these amazing stunts with great strength, agility and grace, beautifully choreographed to music written especially for their shows which combine theater, circus and dance. They started doing performances in 2004, and are currently circumnavigating the world aboard their sailboat, La Loupiote, along with their 2 daughters, Ondja and Loeva, who sometimes performs with them as a puppet. Their only source of income is the donations they collect from the audiences at the end of each show. All shows are open to the public, performed at marinas and other areas where they can situate the boat between two docks, and basically perform on the water.
They usually perform 2 acts per show, roughly 20 minutes each, with a short interval in between. "Entre Île et Aile" (From harbor to harbor) was created in 2005. It combines humor and sensuality, and defies balance and gravity. This is directed more toward adult audiences, while the ‘Navigators’, created in 2009 and is a humorous family show inspired by old silent movies. It's a parody about sailing and the relationship between a captain and a ship's boy.
Franck has been interested in science and art since childhood, and started his career as an engineer, moving on to the performing arts where he was a technician, comedian and acrobat. He was also the artistic director for Circus street art, as well as Opera and Theater.
Delphine had dreams of becoming a clown or an archeologist, and studied history of art, archeology and fine arts. For more than 10 years she has combined acrobatics with Circus street art.
They call themselves Voilier Spectacle (www.voilierspectacle.com) and are currently in New Zealand where they have a couple of shows scheduled. If possible, do try to see one of their performances…you will be absolutely amazed and wonderfully entertained by this very talented family. Anyone wishing to schedule one of their performances can follow their travels on their website, and contact them when they are in the vicinity. Their contact information is as follows:
