Imagine living in a place where these beautiful butterflies are commonplace! I love the beauties that fly around my garden in Ohio, but I have to go to our Franklin Park Conservatory to see one as stunning as this! Every year, they release exotic butterflies in the greenhouse of the Conservatory. You enter a guarded room of wonder! As you wander through this paradise of plants and water, butterflies soar over head, or glide right in front of you, sometime they even land on a shoulder or someone's back. Before you leave, you have to be checked that no butterfly might be tagging along with you trying to escape!
This Red Lacewing butterfly is found on the Philippine islands which are home to many lovely species. They are brightly colored, but that serves as a warning to their predators that they taste bad, due to the poisonous host plants of the Lacewing caterpillar! This species is found in India, Nepal, China and Indonesia. The striking coloration and complex patterning on the wings is such a magical natural work of art that just floats by you in the breeze!
