Lake Harriet, The Bandshell and the Rose Garden are familiar places to those of us who live in Minneapolis (the City of Lakes). This very large tote/carry-on is knitted with many varieties of wool yarns and novelty yarns to attempt to capture the beauty of this lovely area in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lake Harriet is the bottom third of this work and then one goes up into the walking path, bicycle path (with two bikes) and the road around this lovely lake. I knitted and felted the bandshell separately and then cut the pieces and needlefelted the bandshell with its large window overlooking & reflecting the lake & also needlefelted the trees surrounding the lake and bandshell.. The rose garden is a lovely place to visit and the satin roses are knitted and felted right into the bag. I created the 'sky' from a variety of blues. Two ICORD handles are secured at each side with rosette felted knots and two ICORDS come over the top edge to catch wooden sailboat buttons. This lake is very popular for sailing. The interior continues the lake theme with a twice reinforced interior base covered in a fashion fabric which compliments the lake and flower theme. This is a memorable summer place in the Twin Cities and many weddings take place in the Rose Garden with its many beautiful fountains. This work was on display in the Hopkins Center for the Arts in August of 2007.
