Le Chapeau Rouge
Painting - Painting
This is a painting of a typical flower market, scattered throughout the charming villages of southern France. I befriended the three people in the painting, on a sojourn in southern France. The two older ladies were weary from work, but always greeted me and their customers with a bonjour and jovial smile. The cheerful young girl, with her little dog, became my companions. She always seem to find me as I explored the small village and to help me with my limited French. Her daily attire was a tattered red hat, worn jeans and tee shirt. I decided to give her a new red hat, and a pretty white dress, with a blue satin sash, for this painting. I hope she would approve of her new look.
I used watercolor, acrylic and gouache paints to achieve different textures and vibrancy in the composition. The sun in southern France is extremely brilliant, so strong, undiluted paints worked well in this painting.
