Description
The Le Griffon or also known as The Griffin Sailing Exploration Ship was Launched on August 7 1679 and was Built by Rene-Robert cavelier,Sieur de La Salle in his Quest to find the Northwest Passage to China and Japan.La Salle was an Explorer and Fur Trader.
Le Griffon was Built & Launched at Cayuga Creek on the Niagara River as a seven-cannon,45-ton barque. Captain La Salle & Father Louis Hennepin set out on the Le Griffon's maiden Voyage on August 7th,1679 with a crew of 32, Sailing across Lake Erie,The Detroit River, Lake Huron and lake Michigan through uncharted waters that only canoes had explored, LaSalle disembarked on September 18 on a trip to Green Bay,Wisconsin and vanished on Lake Michigan with all six crew members and a load of furs.
Historians say Le Griffon was the 1st European ship to sail the Upper Great Lakes and the 1st Ship to sink on the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes of North America are among the most Dangerous bodies of water in the world, bad Seasonal Storms & Gales, called the Witch of November have claimed hundreds of Ships and Sailors - The Le Griffon is the "Holy Grail"
of all shipwrecked ships on the Great Lakes because it was the First Ship built and first ship the sank on its Maiden Voyage in Lake Michigan, another Well Known Ship that sank on the Great Lakes was the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975,
The Le Griffon is the first and oldest Sunken Ship on The Great Lakes, and Old Haunted Ghost stories are told about Sailors seeing the Ghost Ship Le Griffon Sailing on The Treacherous & Mysterious North American Great Lakes, here The Le Griffon is Sailing North out of Lake Erie into the Detroit River Northward To Green bay Wisconsin and Sank to the bottom of Lake Michigan during a Gale Storm and ship and crew were never found to this day, so when you on the Great Lakes beware of the Ghost Ship Le Griffon !!
