Le Repas D Ingres
David G Wilson
Painting - Acrylic On Plywood
This is an example where I try to depict the alternative realities that I perceive within the contours of a famous Old Master painting. It is what my mind's eye sees when I behold "La Grande Odalisque" painted by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres. As I scrutinize the image, I perceive within my mind's eye the mnemonic images the are transformed into the body of the odalisque. The alternative realities that I perceive therein, I call them "mnemonic images" because they remind me of everyday life objects or sometimes images that I invoke from the memory of my childhood, many of which are recurrent in my paintings. The painting is in the collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris and I had the pleasure of seeing it there.
