Description
Art can be so many things,
Endless potential for more.
To see the world differently
Art swings wide the door.
Skewing reality; championing insanity-
Too often, the same old bag o’ tricks.
Imitating life to forward comment;
Unconcerned if nothing sticks.
Liberties taken with wild abandon;
Absurdity safeguards the pack.
Feeling impervious, Art relaxes
While life lampoons Art right back.

Notes: This piece is a symbolic take on my perspective of certain areas of the art world. I may offend some out there with this viewpoint, but no sense in being anything less that true to oneself.
Personally, a lot of 'contemporary' or 'modern' art I see is nothing less than ridiculous. I'm speaking of certain self-ascribed 'visionaries' and their supporters that see themselves separate from the rest of the world, leading it forth despite itself, with their works of inconceivable and/or unappreciated importance. Surrounding themselves with themselves, they revel in fabricated enlightenment. It's just my opinion that the rest of us look on them as little more than passing amusement - the occasional circus of clowns serving, at best, as a passing distraction while everyday problems need to be dealt with, every day, by everyone else.
In the drawing, the fat, funny-looking fellow represents these cutting edge 'artists' and their enablers, happy and proud, while the rest of the world lampoons them for a laugh.
Again, apologies for any offense. I've been around all types of creative people and know so many good ones. I just feel there's a few out there that, for varying reasons, are undeserving of the attention they acquire, spoiling it for the ones that deserve more and better. There's plenty of room in the world for all manner of craziness and absurdity - frankly, I'm all for it. It just rubs me wrong when it's prized highly over so much other real stuff.
