Brilliantly creative, looks so resigned to his fate

This rootstuck treetch does look "so resigned to his fate', as though he is stuck forever like this. And I guess in this "moment of time in this painting" he will always be like that. But, I like to think he is pondering.... and before too long he will "get past his perplexities" and start doing some important amazing creative things that are there for him to do.... and then he will likely return to this "state of being" shown in this picture... until he starts functioning again. Maybe I should mention that this treetch is kind of a "self-portrait" of me... I don't look like this, but my method of living is sometimes like what I just wrote here.

frank I totally relate to the difficulties my self ..being left handed I often me messes while working on paintings or ink work..I get all into the piece and forget to be carefull! I keep spreading the media going over the work with my left hand and trying to repair the mistakes have cost me many artpiece I will be trying air brushing in the next few months it may be a great option from me! I love this image you did! What was did inspire you to create it! Did you have a clear image like a flash in your mind right from the begining or the character to shap as you progressed with it? what type of media did you use? Acrylic paint? I love to draw trees in ink or graphite, There is something very comforting about drawing the details in the bark and see it progress! This arkwork details are remarckable! favored and voted!

The image was inspired by a number of things-- one was an old dead tree I took photos of in Sequoia National Park. I also was inspired by artists Brian Froud and Julek Heller who both have drawn and painted old faces etched with character. And lastly I have struggled (off and on through the years) with the emotions that I put on the face of this treetch. I used mixed media to paint it. It started as a pencil drawing on 15"x20" illustration board. I then painted it with watercolor. And I worked on it also with prismacolor pencils. Then I painted it with a translucent glaze of oil paint. Last, I added detail with thick oil paint and a small brush.

I try to paint pictures that express me and my struggles in life, and I feel like that in this image I must have succeeded better than in other paintings I have done. I am pleased that I was able to paint an image that resonates to a number of people in a way that they want to look at the painting more than once. By the way, I just looked at your rose photos and they are quite beautiful and very sensitive. My favorite is the photo you titled "Layers Unfurled".

Thank you, Julie. I put a lot of myself (my emotions, frustrations, and even my frustration at times trying to paint this picture) into this painting. After many weeks of working on this painting I thought I I had it almost done--but I didn't feel like it had enough depth and realness into it-- so I put a blue gray glaze of oil paint over the whole painting and dropped it back into shadow. Then I really was depressed for a few days, because I felt like I had "wrecked" my painting. Fortunately I had taken a photo of the painting the way it looked before the "deadly blue glaze" was applied. And I spent quite a few days repainting it to bring it back closer to the way it had looked before. But now the painting had that worked over rough"real' look that it never had before. I think some of this struggle I went through comes through in the painting you see-- and I think that all of us can relate to that struggle. I know I did when I painted it, and I still do even today!

Very cool! What is the medium?

The painting was painted mostly with watercolor on a 15"x20" illustration board (paper surface). The painting is mixed media with some prismacolor pencils used throughout, and there is a glaze of oil paint thinned with liquin applied at the end of the painting.

Good question, Maha. You are correct that you can copy and paste images on my website, but those images are low resolution. Images people buy from Fine Art America are much higher resolution and look much better especially in larger sizes.
