Listen To The Echoes
Painting - Oil On Canvas
This is a painting of the sun setting on the Rocky Mountains. The river flows from the mountains and cascades over falls into the foreground. The colors are soft and cool reflecting the mountain air as night approaches. I did this painting using a much softer approach as can be seen in the colors of the sky. When I paint I usually start with a black canvas. This allows the colors to remain rich. I also do not use any thinners. I prefer the thick paint with broad brushstrokes when I create my scenes. Most of the paintings I do come from actual places. I do not like to make my pictures look exactly like what I see. Instead I prefer to take what is seen in nature and manipulate it into the how I see the world around me. Almost all of my paintings have some form of water in them. I really enjoy painting water because there is so much creativity there. Water has the ability to transform the world thru which it travels. It can also change how a picture is viewed. Darker water tends to give the feel of a cooler day. The lighter colored water makes to picture a warmer. I also enjoy doing larger paintings. The larger surface allows me to capture more of the natural scene and gives me more opportunity to explore my own ideas . Because I choose landscapes and seascapes I have an almost unlimited supply of ideas from which to draw upon.
