Painting - Oil On Canvas
This is a painting that was inspired by a little stream and waterfall in Southeast Alaska. It's a knife painting done in more or less an impressionistic style.
When I'm walking in the woods, whether on a trail or off the beaten path, I experience different feelings. Sometimes those feelings seem to happen simultaneously, even though that would seem impossible.
Like feeling fear and a strange kind of serenity at the same time. In Alaska, the fear is there because there really are wild animals in those woods and human beings aren't anywhere near the top of the food chain. And you're just another food source for billions of mosquitos.
But there's also a peacefulness and calm that you feel when you're surrounded by the natural serenity of the forest.
And, of course, you feel awe at the beauty of your surroundings.
So - awe, fear and serenity. All of those feelings combine for an amazing experience.
