Description
Loam soil. Hand feeling the texture of a sample of loamy soil. Such soils contain similar proportions of sand, silt and clay particle types. This results in a rich, brown, well-textured soil that has beneficial characteristics for growing many plants. The combination of clay and sand means that water drains well, but not so much that the soil dries out. Loams are generally rich in nutrients and are easy to work. As such they are favoured by many gardeners and farmers.
