Louise Brooks was a silent era star, who is now a modern day Hollywood icon. A small town girl from Kansas, Brooks began dancing at an early age. She left her rural childhood behind, and later became a featured Ziegfield dancer, where at the age of 18, she became great friends with W.C. Fields, and had a two month romance with Charlie Chaplin, who at the time was the most famous man in the world. She was known for her, “bob” haircut, which is still in style today. From 1925 through 1938, she appeared in 24 films. Her most famous role was in the 1929 German film classic, Pandora's Box, where she played, Lulu. A strong minded rebel, she left the film industry in 1938, and disappeared from the Hollywood scene for many years. She resurfaced in the 50s through early 80s as a writer, and was hailed for her bestselling book, Lulu in Hollywood, in 1982. She died in 1985, at the age of 78.
